WOMEN READING
For the past ten years I have been documenting women reading in public spaces. As a woman I see the act of carving out time for oneself as a form of soft resistance to the pressures of home and society. But when we do this, entire immersive worlds open up to us. There’s also a slow quiet power in occupying public spaces while turning inward, indulging in reading for pleasure or connecting with oneself this way. Images are almost always snapped on my cell phone or any other camera I have on hand at the moment. Photographed in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles between 2013 and 2023…this is an ongoing series.
